Volkswagen

Volkswagen is one of the largest of automakers in the history of Europe. The word Volkswagen actually means a people's car. In Germany, this would not have been a new idea as people were looking for a car that would meet all of their requirements. A one of a kind of car would be affordable, efficient on fuel consumption and designed just right. Although most other car manufacturers did try to get the right car manufactured and brought out, they were not cost effective.

In the year 1930, Ferdinand Porsche set up a new automotive design company. This company was called Porsche Buro. They patented an engine that was front suspension.

Then a company called Zundapp asked Porsche to go ahead and make a good enough car for them that could work just right. Porsche made a 2 door sedan almost similar to the Beetle of that time. The 1.2 engine was a new thing at that point of time.

The next car that was made was the NSU in the year 1933. As the years rolled by Volkswagen was able to carve out a niche for itself in the market. The higher price that the buyers have to pay for is worth it as it offers them a great upscale car and one of the best ownership and driving experiences,

Right since the 1930s, Ferdinand Porsche had this dream of designing stylishly small and compact cars. In the year 1950, the Bus Type 2 was added to it product range. The Beetle remained one of the best selling cars from this maker. This was all through the 1960s when the Volkswagen Beetle saw the most wonderful amount of success come its way. The advertising and marketing campaign adopted, the best of features in the car saw the Beetle getting the kind of unprecedented sales for Volkswagen.

The year 1972 was when the volkswagen Beetle became the bestselling car in the entire world. This was quite a feat for the Volkswagen company to achieve. The Passat or Dasher as it was called in the US was the first of its kind of car to have the engine in the front that was water-cooled. The next one was the Golf, The Scirocco sport coupe and the Golf/Rabbit GTI.

In the year 1980, Golf was an extremely popular model. It was crafted in a process that was mostly done by machines. The years of 1990s saw the sales fall. This was when Volkswagen launched itself into the luxury car segment. It came out with Phaeton. But, this car did not do well in the market. Volkswagen has been able to make a good amount of sales in its other models and therefore it has been able to keep its head afloat. It has all kinds of cars be it the SUVs, the family sedans and wagons. Each of these are crafted with great care and expertise. The other models are Volkswagen CC, Eos, GTI, Golf, Golf R, Jetta, New Beetle, Passat and Routan.
