Land Rover
The progression of the Land Rover over the years has been as impressive as the car itself. In the 1860s, J. K Starley started a business to manufacture sewing machines in the Coventry region. Then, in 1884 the very first cycles which were based on the safety model were introduced. This was the time that the term Rover was used. The term rover has become so predominantly linked with bicycles that to this day a bicycle in Poland is known as a Rover.
After several attempts of coming up with a prototype of a kind the very first car was started being built in 1904.
The very first land rover, a full-fledged one was designed by a British called Maurice Wilks on a farm. This was in Anglesey in the UK in the year 1947. The inspiration for this was gained from an American World War jeep. The first ones were built with the aluminum which was used in airplanes in order to make it light and as this material were easily available. Also, the colors that were used in the jeep were those that were the military flavored ones of those times. The Land Rover Series 1 that was field tested at Long Bennington by driving it for miles on end on banana oil to see its sturdiness and the way the power trains work. The 2.5 L engine four cylinder 300 TDi made it all the more better. By the year 1967, the sales of the Land Rover had dropped as there was a depreciation noticed in the kind of quality that it used to have and what was on offer right now.
The Land Rover that was launched in the year 1970 called the Range Rover had all the features installed that were missing in the previous models. It had a far better off-road capability; although it was a jeep it came with the best of car like capabilities and had better styling to it.
The high-specification models that have been launched by Land Rover thereafter have been extremely popular ones with the buyers. This has certainly brought on more sales and profits for the company. It is one of the most recognized and rugged of brands along with it being a luxury SUV to own that is on the expensive side. Ever since the time of the new range of Land Rovers in the SUV segment it has always been extremely popular.
Then, in the year 1994, BMW bought Land Rover but it resold it to Ford later on as it had to undergo losses because of it. The current range of models that are available in the Land Rover mode are Discovery 3, Range Rover Sport, Defender, Freelander 2 and Rang Rover. As soon as the Range Rover Sport was launched in the US and it has made it an extremely successful venture for the company. The Land Rover with the advent of the model Defender was far higher than the Hummer. The thing that keeps the buyers interest is the constant styling difference that it brings about.
